SIC Codes for the sector

Measuring sector employment is important to help us influence funding for training. Make sure you're counted - use the right Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code for your organisation.

The latest international revisions of the Standard Industrial Classifications (SIC 2007) are being introduced from January 2008. These aim to describe and define economic activities which help in carrying out research and measuring sector employment.

SIC 2007 has produced 101 extra classifications, including several new ones for sport. In addition to the SIC code for the operation of sports facilities (93.11), there is a new code for sport clubs (93.12), a separate code for fitness facilities (93.13) and a new code for sports and recreation education (93.29). National Governing Bodies of sport, officials and mountains guides are included in other sports activities (93.19).

For the caravan sector, American terminology has taken over so caravan parks are referred to as camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks (55.3). It is still difficult to identify playwork using SIC codes.
