SkillsActive is the Sector Skills Council for active leisure and learning and was set up by government to help employers like you develop and retain highly skilled staff. We focus on improving existing skills gaps, and making sure that government policy and support is shaping the skilled workforce you’ll need tomorrow.

We understand skilled people are the lifeblood of your business. If you’re involved in active leisure and learning, you’ll know that our sector is one of the fastest growing parts of the UK economy.

As such you may also have noticed that it’s getting harder to find good, well-trained and qualified staff.

As the sector goes from strength to strength, it’s vital to ensure that training and skills keep pace. At SkillsActive, our goal is to ensure that you have access to well trained staff, and ongoing training and skills improvement for your people.

Improving skills today…

In partnership with employers, we have developed the Sector Skills Agreement, aimed at understanding and matching staffing supply to demand, and helping employers recruit and retain quality people. We act directly on input from our members, and implement programmes to solve skills issues.

Shaping skills for the future…

To avoid future skills shortages, we are lobbying government to redirect funding to where it’s most needed, and we’re encouraging and supporting ongoing professional development right across the sector.

We are your representative at a government level, communicating the needs of our members to the people who can really make a difference.

Membership brings a wide-range of benefits and costs £25 (+ VAT) per year per business site (capped at £250 + VAT).

We also offer Affiliate status to training providers within the active leisure and learning sector from just £100 +VAT per annum.
