Code of Practice

The Code of Practice for Playwork Training Providers is a guarantee that a training provider offers high quality playwork training.

The Code encourages good practice in playwork training delivery that in turn benefits learners, trainers and employers and provides a quality standard for the delivery of playwork training.

To sign up to the Code of Practice, playwork training providers need to be approved with regard to a set of nationally agreed criteria.

The criteria covers:

  • The needs of the Learner/Trainee

  •  The Competence of Trainers

  •  Equal Opportunities

  •  Health and Safety Policy and Procedures

  •  Quality Assurance Policy and Procedures

  •  Introduction to the Playwork Sector

  •  Induction into the Workplace

  •  Career Progression and routes into training and accredited qualifications

To Apply

If you are a training provider who is currently undergoing one of the following inspections:

  • Adult Learning Inspectorate (formerly known as the Training Standards Council)
  • Ofsted
  • The Scottish Quality Management System (SQMS)
  • HMI or Local Authority Report
  • Learning and Skills Council
  • Higher Education Funding Council (HEFC) through Quality Assurance Authority
  • An Awarding Body – report confirming approval to operate as an Approved Centre

How are training providers monitored?

SkillsActive officers conduct site visits to assess quality of the training being delivered.

SkillsActive also conducts its own in-house monitoring in the form of sampling questionnaires. To read more about this process click here.

Successful registration to the Code of Practice means that playwork training providers:

  • have demonstrated they meet the minimum standards for the delivery of training that all participants in the Playwork sector should expect
  • who wish to deliver the Orientation Programme ‘Making Choices’, courses that meet the
    Playwork Induction Standard and Nationally
  • endorsed training courses are registered to do so and their students can therefore be certificated
  • will be able to use the logo on stationery and other promotional materials such as books, promotional leaflets, brochures, etc
  • are able to submit local training courses for National Endorsement.
