Details of SkillsActive involvement in the North East of England concentrating on sport, fitness and the outdoor sectors.
Facts and figures
- Sport generates £1.1bn in annual turnover and £455m in annual value-added.
- Approximately 295,000 people participate in organised sports clubs.
- Residents spend £585m annually on sports-related goods and services.
- 92 private health clubs in the region (5% of England) with a further 36 planned.
- 220 public sports centres (7% of England) with a further 19 sports centres planned.
Working in the North East region
Operating in close partnership with Sport England, SkillsActive is working with the Sector Skills Development Agency, the Learning and Skills Council, and County Sports Partnerships to engage with local employers and training providers.
A strong infrastructure is in place to enable partners at local and regional levels to contribute to the development of the workforce in the field of active leisure and learning, and SkillsActive will work within existing structures at regional and sub-regional levels, where possible, to avoid duplication and to work in partnership with all key stakeholders.
