- Sport generates £2.5bn in annual turnover and £913m in annual value-added.
- Approximately 575,000 people participate in organised sports clubs.
- Residents spend £1bn annually on sports-related goods and services.
- 142 private health clubs in the region (8% of England) with a further 64 planned.
- 326 public sports centres (11% of England) with a further 44 sports centres planned.
Working in the South West region
Adrian Cable is the regional development managers for the South West. SkillsActive works in close partnership with Sport England in the South West and contributes to the achievement of the goals set out in Sport England’s Regional Plan for Sport and the Regional Economic Strategy. Both documents highlight the importance of education and training in order for the South West to achieve both its economic and social potential. A strong infrastructure is in place and developing to enable partners at local and regional levels to contribute to the development of the workforce in the field of active leisure and learning to improve the quality of life for all residents in the region and the region’s productivity.
