Welsh executive committee

Robert Jones, former Wales and British Lion Rugby International is the Independent Sector Chair and are two vice-chairs - Chris Jennings, Senior Lecturer at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) adopting an educational role and Russell Ward, Chief Leisure and Recreation Officer at Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council representing the major employers in Wales.

Representatives from the Health and Fitness industry, Playwork and the Outdoors sit on the Executive Committee along with the Sports Council for Wales, The Welsh Sports Association, The Welsh Association of Local Sports Councils and ELWa.

There are plans to widen the scope of the Executive Committee to incorporate the Caravan industry and regional representatives from the SkillsActive Sports Learning Networks will also be invited to join the committee.

The SkillsActive Wales Executive Committee will oversee the development of the SkillsActive Wales Strategy 2004–2008 and its associated programmes of work including:

• The development of the SkillsActive Wales Learning Hub
• Professionalising the Health and Fitness Industry
• The Workforce Development Plan for Wales
• The implementation of the SkillsActive Welsh Language Policy
• The associated developments linked to the Coaching Plan for Wales
• Links to the Outdoors

The Sector Skills Agreement and the emerging Workforce Development Plan for Wales will focus upon the headline strategic challenges, key actions and priorities that are faced by Welsh employers, training providers and other organisations. It is anticipated that the delivery of these 2 strategic visions will positively impact upon the state of the Welsh economy.
