Facts and figures

From the Playwork People 3 survey in 2007, research into the region’s play workforce revealed that:

• 39% of playwork settings in the region have between 5 and 10 staff
• 72.4% of playwork settings rely on income from parents/carers
• ??% hold a level 3 or above qualification
• 57.9% of settings report the cost of training as a barrier

Working in the Yorkshire and The Humber region

SkillsActive have a Regional Playwork Development Manager employed through Yorkshire Play to implement the UK Strategy for Playwork Education and Training in the region

Laura Mattocks is the new Regional Playwork Development Manager for Yorkshire and The Humber. Laura is employed by Yorkshire Play, the regional voluntary organisation for Play and Playwork. Yorkshire Play holds the service level agreement with SkillsActive to carry out the regional work. Laura works with the Yorkshire Play board of directors, the Learning and Skills Council, Play England and the Children’s Workforce Development Council, amongst others, to engage with local employers and training providers.

Yorkshire Play provides a strong infrastructure to support networking opportunities for employers, training providers and members to facilitate good practice sharing and a united voice.
