Yesterday across London, Wenlock and Mandeville along with a host of famous sport stars were out in force to celebrate the 2 year countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Since the famous announcement in 2005 that London would host the 2012 Games time has flown by with transport links being laid down, stadiums and venues sprouting up across London and England, and the British athletes staking a claim to be part of Team GB.
Here are some key dates to keep an eye on:
January 2011 - Velodrome due to be finished.
Spring 2011 - Ballot for tickets begins.
May 2011 - Torch bearer nomination process begins.
Summer 2011 - Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre due for completion.
October 2011 - Cultural Olympiad festival programme launches
Volunteering will also be a major part of the success or failure of the Games. So yesterday saw the launch of the volunteer application portal for specialist groups including Personal Best students. This is great news for Personal Best students who wish to put their name forward to be one of the 70,000 Games Maker’s.
For more informaiton on how to volunteer at the 2012 Games please visit the London 2012 website .
I headed down to Trafalgar Square yesterday to soak up the atmosphere at the celebration event there. I was also lucky to catch Flawless (from Britain’s Got Talent) performing... awesome! I’ll leave you with an amusing quote:
"The pitch is arguably better than Wembley's already" – the words of Gary Linekar as he visited the inside of the Olympic Stadium yesterday
