An
Honours degree typically takes 3-5 years
to complete and is usually studied for
at university either on a full or part-time
basis. A degree will cover subject matter
in a more specific detail than a vocational
qualification and will have specific
entry requirements. There are many sports
related degrees available in Higher
Education Institutions (HEIs) across
the UK and each one might have particular
strengths and weaknesses. There are
some HEIs which would class themselves
as specialists in sports related studies
including Loughborough, Leeds Met Carnegie,
Brunel, Birmingham and Bath. One of
the biggest problems currently in this
area is that many graduates with sports
degrees continue to struggle to find
employment in the sector. This is a
concern for many reasons and for many
organisations, including SkillsActive,
who work to ensure that the quality
of training and qualifications offered
by HEIs is fit for purpose and delivering
for the needs of employers. To find
out more about related degrees, please

Foundation Degrees are new initiatives
which have been introduced by Foundation
Degree Forward, SkillsActive, HEIs and
our sector employers. They look to combine
academic study with vocational learning
and quality work experience, and are
designed by employers to meet the needs
of their current skill shortages within
their workforce. For more information
please download
the FD pdf document.
