Employers
in the Active Leisure and Learning Sector
span public, private, voluntary and
not-for-profit organisations, and range
from single person operations to large
multiple use venues with over a hundred
staff. Some of the biggest single site
employers in the UK are professional
sports clubs such as those in the football
Premiership and some of the larger fitness
centres. Other employers include those
related to country clubs, stadiums,
after school clubs, water sports centres,
caravan and camping parks, golf courses
and swimming pools. There are over 250,000
employers recognised in the Active Leisure
and Learning sector employing in excess
of 600,000 people. In England, sport
alone accounts for over 5.8 million
volunteers which is 26% of the total
of volunteers across all sectors.
