Essential
skills at level 2 are at an operational
level which is equivalent to a
GCSE grade A-C. Individuals at
this level should be able to read
and understand more complex information
such as Health and Safety documents
for active environments.
There are national tests which
qualify an individual in level
one and two essential skills and
these are free to adult learners.
They take between 1 hour and 1.5
hours and are multiple choice.
You can learn these essential
skills at a college, in an informal
group, or even on-line. To find
a free literacy, language and
numeracy skills course near where
you live and get a nationally
recognised qualification, call
the Get On free helpline on 0800
100 900, you can talk to a friendly
advisor about your reading, writing
and number skills.
A level two qualification in essential
skills would equip an individual
to undertake the literacy, numeracy,
spoken English and communication
skills required to undertake any
role in the industry.
