The
Active Leisure and Learning sector
provides opportunities for people
from all sectors of society to
become involved in sport at all
levels.
Sport has been particularly recognised
by the Government as providing
a real opportunity to overcome
perceived cultural boundaries
and to promote social inclusion
and community cohesion.
Sporting Equals www.cre.gov.uk/speqs,
the Women's Sports Foundation
www.wsf.org.uk
and the English Federation of
Disability Sport www.efds.net
are funded by Sport England to
address inequality in sport.
The Equality Standard for Sport
is a public pledge for National
Governing Bodies and sports organisations
to encourage access and increase
participation in sport from under
represented individuals, groups
and communities. This has been
developed in partnership with
the home country Sports Councils
of England, Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland and UK Sport
and is supported by the Central
Council of Physical Recreation.
Lord Carter, Chair of Sport England
has also declared his support
for The Equality Standard, saying:
'Sport can change lives. 'The
Equality Standard' is worthwhile.
It's not an option and if we want
a just and fair society, it's
something we have to do.'
