Community Sport Pathway

A range of skills are needed to run a community sports club or project including project management, youth work, fundraising and accounting. The Mayor’s Sports Legacy Fund provides funding towards training in these areas.

Use the course catalogue to find a relevant course from the Academy's network of approved providers and then apply for up to 75% off your course costs using the online application form.

Community projects

Learn to better engage with your community and increase participation with funded training for paid staff or volunteers in areas such as:

  • Successful Project Management
  • Developing and managing a volunteering programme Developing a peer mentoring project
  • Partnership and multi-agency working
  • Introduction to Community Sports Development

The Mayor’s Sports Legacy Fund also offers subsidised training to help new and existing coaches or leaders in community sport work with marginal or disenfranchised groups in London. Training includes:

  • Youth Work
  • Working with challenging behaviour
  • Developing young people as peer mentors
  • Equality and diversity training

Building stronger clubs

Sports clubs require skilled individuals for a range of job roles. The Mayor’s Sports Legacy Fund provides funded training to ensure sports clubs run smoothly and efficiently. Training includes:

  • Club Enterprise
  • Club Treasury Training
  • Minibus driving Training
