A 'course’ licence allows you to endorse all types of continued professional development training. All courses must be a minimum of 8 hours training, include assessment and be mapped to national occupational standards.

Courses generally include both theoretical and practical elements and may be delivered in online and offline formats*, or a combination of both.
For endorsement purposes, a course submission must be submitted and evaluated prior to achieving a licence.

Continued Professional Development Points relate to the amount of hours a learner has done within their sector so that they can show to prospective employers their commitment to industry. These points will be logged within their Active Passport or if the learner doesn’t have a passport then they can show their commitment on the certificate.

WORKSHOP / MIXED
1-6 CPD points per piece of training
A workshop licence enables training providers to endorse online and offline professional development training that contributes to learners' professional development.

Workshops must be a minimum of 4 hours. Learners are not required to complete a formal assessment, although the learning is likely to be formatively assessed. Workshops generally include both practical and theoretical elements and may be delivered online, in person or a combination of both. The number of CPD points awarded for each workshop is dependant upon its duration - a minimum of 1 point and a maximum of 6 points are awarded.
For endorsement purposes, a workshop submission must be submitted and evaluated prior to achieving a licence.

Short duration learning and teaching sessions that contribute to an individual’s professional development may also be endorsed to enable training providers to offer CPD points.

There are a number of methods of delivery which include, seminars, conferences, conventions, trade shows, master classes, online and offline* – all of which offer maximum of 4 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points to members of the SkillsActive Registers, such as the Register of Exercise professionals.
Home-study reading, reflective learning activities (online and offline*), online exams, mentoring - minimum are awarded a minimum of 1 CPD point and a maximum of 3 CPD points.

By approving your training through SkillsActive you become an Endorsed Provider. This shows everyone that you’ve gone through widely recognised and rigorous quality assurance procedures.
As an Endorsed Provider you’ll have proved that you’ve:
- received a Centre Verification Check
- signed a Code of Ethical Practice
- had your training quality assured to ensure standardized delivery
- mapped your training to National Occupational Standards
Approval covers training whether part of the Single Qualifications Framework (SQF) or not, Level 4 courses and higher education degrees.
