Being physically active is the basis for a healthy lifestyle but staying motivated can be a challenge. The Mayor’s Sports Legacy Fund provides subsidised training for people to become Activators. These people work with inactive people in their workplace or community, or people referred by a GP, to help them become more physically active.

The training available is:
Community Activator
The four day training covers a range of topics including: the components of fitness, communication skills, coaching and supporting change as well as direct delivery. The training leads to an accredited Level 2 qualification. The qualification is made up of two units – engaging communities in physical activity and leading physical activity.
Workplace Activator
Workplace Activator training is a one day training course. It covers a range of topics including: the components of fitness, communication skills, coaching and supporting change. There are no pre-requisite levels of knowledge or competencies to undertake either Workplace or Community Activator training. However, the Activator should be confident with good communication skills and an interest in helping friends and colleagues become more active.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing training enables individuals to have 'helpful conversations' with inactive individuals, helping them discover their own reasons for becoming more active whilst building their readiness and confidence. The training involves presentations, live and video demonstrations, supervised practice, feedback and discussion in a relaxed and fun training atmosphere.
Award in Understanding Health Improvement (Level 2)
This accredited course give you an understanding of what leads to inequalities in health, and the Government’s strategy for tackling the problem. You will also learn how effective communication can support health messages and the best ways to promote improvements in health and well-being. It will show you how to encourage individuals to change their behaviour and how you can measuring your case
Understanding Behaviour Change
This training tends to follow the level 2 award in understanding Health Improvement. You will gain a further understanding of why people find it difficult to change their behaviour. You will also learn the most effective ways to open up communication as well as practical methods for motivating people to change.
