What does SkillsActive do?

Skillsactive is licensed by government to work with employers to help reduce skills gaps, increase the number of skilled employees and help organisations retain well-trained and qualified staff.

SkillsActive is positioned to:

• research and identify where the skills needs are within the sector
• set the standard/benchmark for quality training and endorsing qualifications on behalf of the sector
• influence skills and education policy ensuring its relevance to the sector
• advise government on how to priortise its funding and re-direct funding into the sector
• support employers in their quest to recruit and reatin the right people

Why we need members?

We need to engage with employers to help us succeed with our objectives and work as a collective power to ensure government backing so that the future of our sector reflect the needs and demands of the people working in the industry.

We need to be able to clearly demonstrate that we engage with and listen to employers and training providers in our sector, and a key indicator of successful engagement is our membership scheme.

As a member, you demonstrate your commitment to developing a skilled workforce and to improving business standards in the sector. Without your support we cannot succeed and only with your engagement can we meet the needs of the industry and the people who work in it.

Why is SkillsActive so important to the industry?

SkillsActive is the only organisation throughout the UK that is responsible for improving the skills across the whole of the active leisure and learning sector workforce. SkillsActive has the responsibility to ensure that more people are better skilled to deliver the active leisure and learning agenda for the benefit of the health and well-being of the nation, and that those people hold the qualifications that employers value.
