Brokering skills solutions together in NI

Shelly Beresford - SkillsActive - 05/05/09

Taking place on Thursday 25 June, SkillsActive has joined up with the Chief Leisure Officers Association (CLOA), and the University of Ulster to offer health and fitness sector employers the chance to find out about the changes to the skills and qualifications landscape across the province. Over the last two years there have been significant improvements to the Northern Ireland training provision landscape, with many new and emerging initiatives such as Foundation Degrees and bite-sizes chunks of learning. The seminar offers employers the opportunity to get essential updates and make sense of the changes that will impact their workforce.

SkillsActive’s national manager for Northern Ireland Siobhan Weir says: “With the backdrop of tightening training budgets and job insecurity, the Brokering Skills Solutions Together seminar will enable health and fitness employers and training providers to arrive at a common understanding and definition of the term ‘employability skills’; receive an update on what our current and future fitness workforce will look like in 2012 and participate in a unique interactive brokering skills session.”

The brokering skills session is a innovative approach to this year’s seminar, developed to encourage employers to negotiate directly with training providers for training to match their specific needs. Training providers will be given the opportunity to offer personalised advice to help employers access the skills and training they need to make their organisations even more successful.
