SkillsActive Scottish Conference 2008 – Business tools for managing staff

SkillsActive’s Scottish conference in May has the theme of ‘Inspiring the Leisure Workforce’ and is aimed at all those dedicated to, and involved in, shaping the skills for the Scottish workforce across sport, fitness and the outdoors.

One of the latest innovations that SkillsActive have introduced is the UK skills passport for active leisure and learning.  The Active Passport is a unique, web-based facility for recording the skills, qualifications and achievements of staff within an organisation.

As a verifiable record of qualifications and volunteering it benefits both employers and employees:

• Employees get a transferable record of achievements giving them mobility within the active leisure and learning sector and others.
• Employers gain access to clear records of employees’ capabilities, which helps to support recruitment selection and staff training.

An Active Passport can be set up by an individual, an employer or a training provider. This efficient system of maintaining employee skills profiles reduces staff turnover and improves both productivity and output.

The conference is taking place on Thursday 1 May 2008 at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld, near Glasgow and the agenda has been specifically designed to help organisations develop new ways for inspiring and leading their teams. It will include other practical workshops that will be of interest to the various sub-sectors of our workforce.
