Will Pickering, SkillsActive - 24/07/2007
The Department for Children, Families and Schools have released a consultation on ‘Staying Safe’, which aims to promote discussion about how the government can work together to help children and young people stay safe, and make the most of their talents and new opportunities to fulfil their potential
The consultation is aimed at supporting parents in striking the right balance between protecting their children and allowing them to learn and explore safely, without being wrapped up in cottonwool. It will also look at extending anti-bullying policies to children’s homes, extended school services, and youth groups.
SkillsActive will be submitting a response to the consultation in time for the deadline of 31 October 2007, highlighting the importance of play, playwork and a well trained children's workforce.

Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls MP spoke last week on driving up standards for children.
He said, "Our aspirations are straightforward and ambitious. Every child deserves to be safe and loved and have a healthy and happy childhood, free from harm. And every child should have the chance to make the most of their talents and fulfil their potential"
