London 2012 medal hopeful named as Ambassador

DKH Legacy Trust - 10/6/09

Sarah started her career by becoming Junior World Champion in 1998. She has three European Championship gold medals under her belt as well as a gold and silver medal at the World Championships. Sarah finished fourth on her Olympics debut in 2000 and after a judging error was reversed in the quarter-finals of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she went on to win a Bronze medal.

As a result of her dedication to making a difference to young people’s lives, Sarah will play an Ambassadorial role on the project as whole as opposed to committing to individual projects; mainly due to her intensive training schedule resulting from her being an on-programme (competing) athlete. This ‘Ambassadorial role’ will mean that she makes appearances at a number of the six projects as a sporting figurehead. This role will also add to Sarah’s personal development in terms of working with young people in the future, an area which she has identified through her work with the Trust.

The Skill Force ‘Making Headway’ project will deliver a pilot preventative intervention programme targeting approximately 600 young people at level one/two aged between 14 and 16, from disadvantaged or marginalised backgrounds. It aims to contribute to building more cohesive, empowered and active communities, and increase the number of young people on the path to success post-16.
