Children’s commissioner chairs the first national playwork conference for Wales

Time after time, when we ask them, children tell us that playing is one of the most important aspects of their life. Playworkers are trained professionals who work within communities to support and advocate for children’s right to play.

The Deputy Minister for Skills, John Griffiths, will officially launch Playwork Wales, the national centre for education and training in playwork. 

Coming at a time of great change in qualifications and skills development, the aim of Take the Credit is to ensure all delegates have the latest information on future playwork education and training opportunities in Wales.  The findings of the playwork workforce development research ‘Where are you? Ble wyt ti?’ will be presented and there will be a variety of workshops to choose from.

Take the Credit is jointly organised by SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure and Learning, and Play Wales, the national organisation for children’s play.  This exciting conference is for playwork development officers, training providers, further education and higher education staff, playwork and childcare employers, careers information services, playwork managers and workforce development officers.

Tillie Mobbs, Policy Officer, Play Wales, with the responsibility for workforce development said, “Take the Credit is the first conference of its kind in Wales. It comes at a time when there is a growing recognition of the importance of play - the need for trained and qualified playworkers is crucial.”
