UK-wide consultation of the Leisure Operations and Management NOS suite
There have been National Occupational Standards (NOS) in the leisure industry for a long time. They underpin qualifications and apprenticeships and are used by employers. It is important that the NOS are kept up to date and in 2012 SkillsActive managed a small project to see if there were any gaps in the current NOS at levels 2, 3 and 4.
A steering group of employers looked at the current NOS and compared them with some of the new industry trends and developments in the last couple of years. It was felt that there was a need to develop staff to meet the growing demands of customers, with training that focused on the principles of good customer service and the 'soft skills' needed to communicate effectively with customers. As a result of this work seven new NOS are being suggested to add to the current standards to fill the identified gaps. A national consultation is now underway to ask the rest of the industry if they agree that the seven suggested standards would be good additions.
You can view the suggested new standards below and have your say on whether they meet the needs of the industry by completing this questionnaire. The consultation is open until 15th June and it's important that as many people as possible respond to provide an accurate representation of the sector.
