We lead on a range of projects within the outdoors sector, often in partnership with stakeholders. Please use the links below for more information on some of our current projects.
At a European level, outdoor employers have never mutually agreed the functions and competences they require of staff, nor has a bridge ever been established between these requirements and the vocational and educational training provided by training bodies. The absence of a pan-European qualification mechanism has not helped this situation.
This Leonardo funded project aims to build these links through a set of agreed standards for a typical outdoor ‘animator’ (activity leader/ instructor). Training providers can then align their programmes to the employer-supported standards, which in turn will aid worker mobility across Europe.
The CLO2 project website has further information on the project.
Standard economic indicators do not allow easy measurement of the outdoors sector workforce. Accurate information is vital when bidding for funding or when championing the sector and its value to society.
During 2009, we promoted a census of the sector to try and rectify this lack of data. Results are now in, and key conclusions will be available on this site in the very near future.
