News: SkillsActive offers free activepassports for playwork
As a result of a generous donation from the Association of Playworkers (England), SkillsActive is launching a UK wide Activepassport Bursary scheme. There are two parts to the scheme; the first part is targeted at Playworkers and Playwork students who are members of the Children and Youth Workers Union who will all be eligible to apply for a one year activepassport. The second part is for playworkers across the UK who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to apply for one of the five-year passports.
There are 70 free, one-year activepassports available for CYWU members which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The second part of the Bursary scheme has 40 free, five-year activepassports to offer the sector across the UK.
Closing dates for applications is the 18th July. Playworkers who are successful will be notified by the second week in August.

Eligibility criteria:
If you are applying for the one year activepassport, you must:
- Be a member of the CYWU (with a valid membership number)
- and either:
- Be working in a play setting for a minimum of 3 hours per week, whether paid or voluntary and have at least a Level 2 qualification in playwork
- OR be studying playwork with an institution or trainer recognised by SkillsActive
If you are applying for the five-year passport as a part of the bursary scheme, you must:
- Be working in a play setting for a minimum of 3 hours per week, whether paid or voluntary
- Have a minimum of 3 years experience of working in a playwork setting
- Have at least a Level 2 qualification in playwork
- Have an intention to undertake some form of training in the coming year
