Midlands Playwork Tri-Region

The Midlands Playwork Tri-Region consists of the East Midlands and West Midlands along with the South West of England.

Playwork Strategy Manager - Steve Jolly

Main areas of responsibility:

  • To lead and implement the development of strategic and operational relationships with the large play sector employers, representative bodies and key play partners across the Midlands tri-region taking account of individual regional differences in order to respond to employer needs around the skills agenda and improve outcomes for the play sector
  • Support and develop effective business relationships with large play employers (local authorities) individually and through established regional networks to ensure the play workforce is embedded in all Play and Children’s workforce strategies and their play workforce is appropriately qualified with Playwork qualifications
  • Support large employers in the play sector with their workforce needs to:
    • Improve recruitment and retention of skilled people;
    • Increase effective sector investment in skills;
    • Access to funding sources for training and business support through Business Link;
    • Utilise SkillsActive workforce development planning products and services;
    • Engage employees with the work of SkillsActive.  

Playwork Engagement Manager (we are currently recruiting for this post)

    Main areas of responsibility:

    • To lead and implement the development of effective business relationships with individual SME play sector employers across the Midlands tri-region taking account of area differences in order to respond to employer needs around the skills agenda and improve outcomes for the play sector
    • Support SME employers establishing a culture and process of workforce development planning within their organisations in order to support the sectors drive to improve the range and quality of services for children and young people
    • Engage with or establish training provider networks in order to support them in responding to employer needs around the skills agenda and deliver improved outcomes for the play sector by:
      • Ensuring they receive support and guidance materials on new qualifications
      • Offering access to CPD training and quality vocational programmes
      • Assistance and support in obtaining the Code of Practice
      • Support with submission of courses for Endorsement

    Responsible for the day to day running of administrative/communication systems within the SkillsActive Midlands tri-region.
