Training, education & qualifications

SkillsActive is committed to increasing the number of industry recognised qualifications for the active leisure and learning sector. It aims to work with industry and higher education experts, partners and employers to develop tailor made qualifications which will assist the growth of a highly committed and competent workforce. In doing so, SkillsActive aims to professionalise and upskill the sector in the run up to, and beyond, the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

SkillsActive continues to build on new and existing relationships with training providers (including higher and further education), to improve the quality and relevance of vocational education which will meet the needs of employers in the sector.

SkillsActive values the benefits of vocational training and the development of industry standards. Within this section you will find information on the different types of Apprenticeships that SkillsActive is developing. You can find out more about national occupational standards which are at the core of everything we do. You might be interested to learn how we endorse training or read about the different types of qualifications that are available in the sector, including the new developments in 14-19 education.

Training providers and employers have the opportunity to input into the development of these qualifications. You can also be actively involved in SkillsActive's work by becoming member. For more information on becoming a SkillsActive member and the benefits of doing so, see our membership section.
