The outdoors higher level national occupational standards (NOS) feasibility study

Currently, the outdoors has NOS relating to occupations at levels 2 and 3. At level 3, these cover the three main sub-sectors of the outdoors – outdoor recreation, outdoor education and development training. Furthermore, there are two strands of occupation noted within the standards – that of practitioner and that of entry level supervisor/manager/team leader.

This is a short project which aims to explore if there is a need to develop higher level outdoors NOS (L4 and 5), building on the existing levels 2 and 3 standards, and other higher level standards already in existence.

Exploration and expeditions national occupational standards (NOS) feasibility study

Currently, the expeditions and exploration sub-sector does not have any specific NOS relating to it. This has implications for workforce development in the broad sense and specifically for qualification development. NOS are developed at the levels which relate to the jobs and functions in employment.

This is a short project which aims to explore if there is a need to develop NOS for expeditions and exploration. It will focus on the industry sub-sector, its organisations, jobs, functions and the levels of capability required to operate successfully, both now and into the future. It will take into account existing qualifications and standards. The outcome will be the recommendation of a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’. It is not about developing the NOS themselves.
