The North West region

The North West regional hub will be organised around one strong element of sector activities; the Outdoors hosted at COMET, the Centre for Outdoor Management, Education and Training in Penrith.

Our Regional Manager and National Staff will be developing the Sport & Recreation (Including Coaching) and Health & Fitness hubs in consultation with employers and partners throughout 2007/08.

Currently the network will be made up of one centre of excellence in the first year.

Centres of Excellence in the North West

  • COMET focused on the outdoors, specifically induction programmes and their delivery, business development skills for small businesses and a database of all providers in the region.

  • Outward Bound Trust.
  • PGL.
  • Brathay Hall.
  • UCLan.
  • CoVE employer network of over 100 employers. These range from national chains such as Total Fitness, Serco Leisure, Primary Care Trusts, Local Authorities, Leisure Trusts, NGBs, 57 of the 92 Professional Football Clubs to micro-businesses such as local physiotherapists.
  • SERCO Leisure.
  • Manchester Leisure.
  • Droylesden FA.
  • Salford Reds Rugby League Football Club.
  • The Rugby Football League.
  • The Rugby Football Union.
  • Stockport Health Trust.

The Partners

  • HE support – University of Cumbria
  • Regional partners include the NWDA, LSC Cumbria, Cumbria Tourist Board, Cumbria Sport and Sport England NW
