Common Core Consultation

The Green Paper, Every Child Matters, which was published in September 2003 proposed the implementation of a common core of skills, knowledge and competence for 'the widest possible range of workers in children's services'

The Common Core of Skills and Knowledge for the Children's Workforce sets out the basic skills and knowledge needed by people (including volunteers) whose work brings them into regular contact with children, young people and families. By using a common language, it will enable professionals to work together more effectively in the interests of the child and underpins successful intergrated working.

Since its creation, the Common Core has been used for the development of job descriptions and inductions, and in the development of training and qualifications.  It is also used in the development of workforce strategies.

At the moment a review is being undertaken of the Common Core, and SkillsActive is encouraging those that work with children and young people in the consultation.

This consultation is now closed, thank you for your assistance. For more information please contact lesli.godfrey@skillsactive.com
