Sports Coaching National Occupational Standards
SkillsActive is working with sports coach UK and a number of key stakeholders to produce new National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Sports Coaching. We need your help in ensuring that these NOS are fit for purpose.
Consultation on Core Standards Levels 1-3
The first stage of the project has developed a number of NOS to cover the essential ‘core’ functions at each level. The next stage will identify further NOS for populations and specialist ‘optional’ functions such as Nutrition and Talent ID.
The NOS will be used to form the basis of coaching qualifications and are consistent with the UK Coaching Framework and UK Coaching Model. The NOS also tie in with the UK Coaching Certificate qualification guidance. The new NOS can be used by organisations for a range of different purposes, for example:
- To support the planning of training and development by appropriate agencies such as employers, deployers or training providers
- To support the definition of job roles
- Use in frameworks to measure staff performance and identify strengths and weaknesses (by using the standards to appraise and develop staff)
- As a basis for identifying and develop routes for progression and professional development
The draft NOS are presented at three levels:
- Level 1: Assistant Coach
- Level 2: Sessional Coach
- Level 3: Coach developing and implementing annual coaching programmes
