Personal Best

Personal Best is an exciting pre-employment programme designed to harness the unique motivating force of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to engage workless and socially excluded people with learning and opportunities in the labour market, lift their aspirations and create new life or career choices.

The Programme uses the prospect of becoming a Games Time Volunteer in 2012 as an inspiration to attract eligible people to undertake a Level 1 qualification, experience some volunteering and ultimately to move into employment or further training.

Those that take part in the Programme will receive guidance in training for a qualification and support in their volunteering experience, all of which help as 'stepping stones' toward a new work opportunity or further training. Ultimately, the goal of the Programme is to give people new skills and employment opportunities and raise self esteem and self confidence.

Learning and Skills Council

Personal Best has been set up as a partnership programme by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Mayor of London, Job Centre Plus and the London Development Agency (LDA).

The Learning and Skills Council exists to make England better skilled and more competitive. They are responsible for ensuring the availability of high-quality education and training for everyone. The LSC have a single goal: to improve the skills of England’s young people and adults to world class standards.  Their vision is that young people and adults in England have knowledge and skills matching the best in the world and are part of a truly competitive workforce.  The LSC work nationally, regionally and locally to deliver this ambition on behalf of learners and employers.
