2007 bursary awardee - Matt Johnson
Matt Johnson is the Head of Development (16 teams) at Reading Rockets Basketball Club, which is the second biggest club in the UK.

He is in charge of the mentoring and technical development of all Head Coaches, Assistants and youth coaches. He is the Head Coach of the club’s U-18 Men’s team and U-13 boys’ Head Coach and Assistant to the Senior Men’s team. He has just completed a 3 year post as the England U-18 Men’s Assistant Coach, and was also Assistant for the World Student Games team in the summer of '06. Matt works with contacts in Europe and the USA to place his top level junior players appropriately. Matt currently has to work in schools and colleges to keep his income to a plausible level.
Matt has developed an extremely ambitious and impressive coaching development pathway, which will see him become the GB Assistant Coach in 2012 and the GB Head Coach by 2016. In order to achieve his goals, Matt has identified a number of personal development experiences that he wishes to pursue over the coming years. To this end, he has been awarded £800 to fund his travel to North Carolina, USA, where he has been offered an incredible opportunity to train with Head Coach Bob McKillop at Davidson College – one of the top Basketball Colleges in the United States. Matt will visit the college for one week, starting October 12.
