Norman Greenhouse in action coaching
The Welsh example is pioneering the development of disabled badminton across the UK and other countries are keen to learn from Norman and Welsh Badminton’s achievements to date. Norman is tutor for the disabled coaching module of the UK Coaching Certificate, which has now been piloted in all four home nations. He is also part of the European Disabled Badminton Committee. Norman was invited to the World Badminton Championships and Coaching Conference in Scotstoun, Glasgow, to give coaching demonstrations with disabled players (see pictures on this page).
Norman has been awarded £500 to travel to the Netherlands and work with the wheelchair badminton world champion and his coach. Through contact with Welsh Badminton, the £500 will be match funded to allow Norman to expand his programme and cover all costs of his trip.
Welsh Badminton are also keen for Fiona Ried, a colleague of Norman’s who is based in the Federation of Disability Sport (Wales), to join Norman in the Netherlands. Ideally this will become a sustainable programme where further coaches will be given the opportunity to work with experts in the field.
