2007 bursary awardee - Tom Lloyd
Tom Lloyd runs the Soccerette Academy in Portsmouth, which delivers a variety of coaching in schools across Portsmouth and it's surrounding areas.
The programme consists of infant, primary, secondary and adult sessions delivered as either PPA cover, after-school clubs or community sessions. Whilst a number of sports are delivered, Girls' Football is the company's main focus. One of Tom’s primary roles is the management, development and coaching of the University of Portsmouth Women's Football Club. He also run the University's 'Application to Coaching' programme - a seven week preparation course where potential coaches are advised on all of the key attributes to becoming a good coach before they go on to their Level One coaching course.
Following a previous tour to the USA where Tom was made aware of the advanced state of the women’s game, he has been awarded £800 to visit the Cary Soccer Association, pioneers of women’s football development, and work on their summer scheme in Chicago. As well as working with top professional coaches, Tom intends to extend his stay (in July and August) to learn from the support structures in place at women’s clubs. Tom has confirmed that the Cary Soccer Association will cover his accommodation and living expenses (to the tune of £800) in return for his volunteer hours.
