Additional credit for Work Based Learning Pathways in Wales

SkillsActive, in partnership with OCN Wales (Open College Network Wales), will be able to award level 2 credit for work experience placements for the first time as part of the Work Based Learning Pathway (WBLP) pilot in sports management, leadership and coaching from September 2008.

Jessica Benson, SkillsActive - 25/04/08

With current assessment criteria, the WBLP students could gain a maximum of four credits at level 2, through successful planning and preparation of the work experience, undertaking a work placement safely, exploring an organisation during work and reflecting on the placement.

The learning units were developed by OCN Wales as part of the ‘Recognising Wider Learning’ project commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government through the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales (CQFW).  The units can be evidenced by the Careers Wales ‘Work Experience Organiser’ and have been developed in collaboration with Careers Wales North East.

Eleri George, SkillsActive development officer young people and 14-19 reform (Wales) said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain recognition of learning during their work placement and as they are on placement for a significant period of time we are hopeful that we will also be able to practice problem solving and communication skills.“

“SkillsActive is the first Sector Skills Council to use the materials developed as part of the CQFW project and OCN Wales is delighted to be involved in the piloting of these materials in a Work Based Learning Pathway.” said Anne Lewis, deputy chief executive, OCN Wales.
