Bursary available for coaches and leaders

After successfully helping twelve bursars in their personal development over the past two years, SkillsActive is delighted to continue its sponsorship and management of the bursary on behalf of the Nancy Ovens Trust for a third year.

The bursary is aimed at paid or voluntary coaches and leaders who work with children and young people across the active leisure and learning sector. The bursary will be awarded to a coach or leader to allow them to enhance their own skills and knowledge by taking part in studies, work experience or activities outside of their community.

Previous applicants used their funding in a variety of ways that enabled them to personalise their learning experience in order to develop their skills most effectively. Some used the funding to help take a time off from work in order to volunteer while others travel abroad to work with the leading coaches in their field.
The bursary will be worth up to £2,000 and may be used by the selected individual(s) to undertake an alternative work experience or training within the UK or EU. The Nancy Ovens Trust and SkillsActive will appoint a mentor for the period of the bursary.

The bursary offers applicants the opportunity to tailor their own experience in a way that will be most beneficial to their career/voluntary activity, and SkillsActive is looking for intuitive ideas that demonstrate the motivation and drive of applicants and is therefore flexible in terms of proposed experiences.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 6 April.
