Employer forum to help shape Health and Fitness
SkillsActive, the Register of Exercise Professionals and the Fitness Industry Association are holding employer forums across the UK to discuss current and future issues in health and fitness.
Andrew Brown, SkillsActive - 03/04/2008
The fitness industry is widely recognised as fast moving and dynamic. Today sees the spotlight firmly focused on our sector with a higher than ever public awareness of the need to be active, government recognition of the benefits of physical activity and greater opportunities to become serious partners with the health sector.
- Is the industry equipped to meet the challenges of the future?
- What are the current issues and trends in the industry?
- What are the skills needed by instructors to meet a changing client market?
- What is the place of qualifications, training and professional registration in the future of the industry?
These are just some of the issues that we need to address, and this forum will go some way to doing so. It is widely accepted that in the near future we will see very different demands on our industry, we need you to help the industry prepare for that future. This is critical work and as a result of the forums the entire qualifications and training framework will be changed.
Some of these changes will include:
New National Occupational Standards for the fitness industry
Changes to the structure of the Register of Exercise Professionals
A Sector Qualifications Strategy resulting in changes to all industry qualifications
Changes to the Continuing Professional Development Framework of the Register
These forums present a real opportunity for the industry to ensure that it is prepared for changes over next 5 to 10 years.
The first forum will take place on Tuesday 29 April, at SkillsActive in London, and will be open to employers and operators.
