First stage development of the new Diploma in Sport and Leisure completed

The final draft Line of Learning for the new Diploma in Sport and Leisure is being launched today at the 14-19: Ready for Reform? conference in London. Work will then start on developing the qualification criteria in preparation for launching the new Diploma in Sport and Leisure in 2010.

Jessica Benson, SkillsActive - 02/04/2008

The document outlines the vision for the Diploma in Sport and Leisure and is the result of extensive research conducted by the Diploma Development Partnership with a wide range of national employers, higher education, further education, schools and other interested groups. The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority will be consulting on the Line of Learning criteria during May and June 2008 which may result in changes being made to the Line of Learning. A final version of the Line of Learning will therefore be published by 31 July 2008.

The Line of Learning statement is a detailed document written and owned by the relevant diploma development partnership that outlines the rationale, vision and content at foundation, higher and advanced levels that should be contained as part of the principal learning component within the Diploma qualification. The draft document is intended to inform and guide the development of the Line of Learning criteria.

The government is introducing the new Diplomas into schools from 2008 to sit alongside GCSEs and A levels. 17 subjects are planned and will be rolled out over the next few years. The Diploma in Sport and Leisure has the potential to become the ‘flagship’ qualification for all 14-19 year olds seeking to enter the active leisure and learning sector.
