Innovative Online Academy goes live

Employers and learners will now be able to access training resources from one coherent source, thanks to the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure’s innovative ‘Online Academy’ having gone live. The unique and cost effective overall entry point, designed to maximise improved training provision, will impact the whole sector - from large and medium sized companies to small clubs and self employed businesses.

National Skills Academy - 03/10/2008

The Online Academy will be the first port of call for learners keen to find out about the skills needed to enter the sector or to progress their career. Over time they will be able to access career maps, a directory of qualifications valued and recognised by employers and a directory of approved training providers.

For employers, the website will provide valuable information about recognised training providers, advice on how to make the most affective use of staff training budgets.

The academy will bring clarity to a confused training picture, says Florence Orban, Chief Executive at the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure. “Currently learners have to choose from around 490 existing qualifications specific to our sector and these have historically been delivered through an uncoordinated mix of providers. It can be very confusing and makes it difficult for learners to be sure they are signing up for courses which will provide them with the best chance of employment post qualification.

“The NSA and in particular the new online platform will provide one single approach to the best skills training in our sector for over 85,000 new entrants, existing staff and future leaders every year. The Academy will focus on building and maintaining strong partnerships with stakeholders, employers and training providers to ensure the goal of up-skilling the sport and active leisure industry is achieved in the run up to 2012.
