Skills seminar aims to help NI fitness sector recruit and retain staff
SkillsActive is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual joint SkillsActive Northern Ireland and Chief Leisure Officers’ Association (CLOA) skills seminar which is for all those involved in recruiting and retaining staff in the fitness sector across Northern Ireland.

The theme of the half day seminar, which is taking place on Thursday 12 June 2008 at Stranmillis University College , Belfast, is ‘Recruiting and Retaining Leisure Sector Staff’ and will consist of various speakers and workshops on a range of issues from within the active leisure and learning sector. It will also be an excellent opportunity to network with the key individuals from a workforce development field.
A series of facilitated workshops will allow attendees to both discover and contribute to the latest developments including:
- Barriers to work placements;
- Workforce Development Planning;
- Progression routes;
- Training in the workplace;
- Skills Passports and Skill Analyser;
- New qualifications including Apprenticeships, NVQs; Foundation degrees
Keynote topics on the day will include a thought-provoking and challenging presentation on research into recruiting practice across UK Health and Fitness organisations. There will also be an opportunity to hear how the private and public sectors in Northern Ireland address recruitment issues. Nuala Kerr, Director of Skills & Industry Division, Department for Employment and Learning will open the seminar with a summary of how Government is helping the sector to improve and develop its leisure workforce.

With a shrinking labour pool, it is getting more challenging to recruit and retain quality staff. This seminar will help managers and employers to stay ahead of the game in meeting that challenge.”
The event is a must for all those involved with, or looking to develop the workforce across the leisure sector in Northern Ireland and is aimed at both public & private leisure sector employers & employees including: Heads of Leisure Departments, Duty Managers, Leisure Attendants, Personal Trainers, Human Resource Managers; Training Providers and Active Leisure students.
