Management and leadership in Scotland
Management and leadership training had been identified as a key priority by employers across a number of sectors in research undertaken for Sector Skills Agreements.

As the lead Sector Skills Council (SSC) for management and leadership, SkillsActive led a cross-sector initiative funded through the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA), with five other SSCs to address the need for high quality management and leadership training and skills resources.
SkillsActive’s head of home country development, Ashley Pringle said: “It has been really great to lead this initiative on behalf of all sector skills councils. The outcomes identified in the final report including a Scotland-specific management and leadership web resource, addresses a need identified by employers in Scotland. We are really starting to address some of those skills and training gaps as identified in our Sector Skills Agreement.”
As part of the overall brief, SkillsActive in partnership with learndirect Scotland (now part of the new skills body Skills Development Scotland) led a project to research and develop a database of management and leadership learning providers and programmes (many of which are quality assured). This project links SkillsActive’s management and leadership programme to Scotland’s national learning opportunities database (NLOD).
