Outdoor standards consultation launched
SkillsActive today launches two feasibility studies to determine whether the sector considers a need for National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the expeditions and exploration sub-sector and higher standards at level 4 and 5 NOS for the outdoors.

SkillsActive works together with partner organisations and experts to develop NOS across the Active Leisure and Learning Sector. One of the key goals is to develop a framework of qualifications and training which meet the needs of the sector. The consultations aim to determine whether the sector considers a need for these new standards.
Currently, the expeditions and exploration sub-sector does not have any specific occupational standards relating to it. This has implications for workforce development in the broad sense and specifically for qualification development. The outdoors has standards relating to occupations at levels 2 and 3, yet there are currently no higher level standards at level 4 and 5.
These two feasibility studies aim to explore if there is a need to develop both standards for expeditions and exploration and at levels 4 and 5 for the outdoors sector.
