Quality Inclusion in Play and Childcare

This Autumn, the charity KIDS will host Network Seminars as part of their Playwork Inclusion Project which will focus on quality in play and childcare.

Andrew Brown, SkillsActive - 25/09/2008

The PIP Seminars will be presented in partnership with KIDS associate trainers and with regional organisations working in play and childcare. These events will cover a range of topics, such as:

  • Skills and learning for delivering quality inclusive play and childcare
  • Approaches to further developing quality inclusion
  • KIDS ‘All of Us – the framework for quality inclusion’ – your chance to assess the quality of your setting and to action plan for change
  • A taster of the new “All of Us – the framework for quality inclusion” training

The events will also explore what is happening nationally in workforce learning and development along with the funding available, along with approaches to improving quality in your setting and an opportunity for you to use and have training in “All of Us – the framework for quality inclusion” and apply it to your setting.

The day will offer anyone working towards quality inclusion in their setting the opportunity to network and share their experiences, to showcase examples of good practice and to exchange advice and guidance.

KIDS are also busy ensuring that disabled children don't miss out on the millions of pounds being spent on developing new play services, having been drafted in to provide advice as Play England advises councils on how to use their share of the £235m of play funding given out by the government.

Adrian Voce, the director of Play England, said teaming up with the disabled children's charity would give councils access to important specialist knowledge. "We will be contracting KIDS to work with us so that what we're doing is mainstreamed," said Voce.

Kevin Williams, chief executive of KIDS, said: "The other thing we bring to the table is that we are very aware of the development of Aiming High for Disabled Children and short breaks so we'll keep reminding the authorities about those."
