Lee Rowberry, SkillsActive - 15/06/2009
The report considers the following areas and then makes a series of recommendations:
-
Improving participation in Apprenticeships
-
Obstacles to entry to workforce and apprenticeships faced by learners following E2E programmes and those who are NEET
-
The Group Training Model as a solution to engaging employers and young people
Broken down into three areas, Part One of the report explores the issues as identified by three of the key target groups with a stake in increasing Apprenticeship participation: learners, employers and advisors. In conclusion it summarises the key barriers which affect participation.
Part Two presents the key findings of the South West Progression Pilot, outlining the challenges faced in implementing the Group Training Model and the suitability of candidates for the programme. Concluding with 10 key recommendations for the future, Part Three draws together both elements of the report, outlining conclusions in relation to the key objectives.
SkillsActive regional development manager for the South West, Adrian Cable, says:
“SkillsActive is working closely with employers and training providers to increase the availability and take up of Apprenticeships. This report will play an important role in guiding this work in the South West.”
