Volunteer involvement study

First review of volunteer involvement in the delivery of services for children, young people and families.

Volunteering England - 16/04/07

The Institute for Volunteering Research (IVR) is undertaking a scoping study on behalf of the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) looking at the involvement of volunteers in the delivery of services for children, young people and families. This cuts across a broad range of roles from family outreach volunteers, to learning mentors in schools to unpaid babysitters. The study will provide the first comprehensive review of volunteer involvement in this sector and will inform future planning and development strategies by CWDC.

We are keen to learn if and how your organisation involves volunteers in this area and to hear about some of the key issues you are facing in the involvement and management of volunteers. We would be very grateful if you could complete a short survey by clicking on the link below. It should take less than ten minutes to complete (there are only 11 questions) and your responses will be kept anonymous in all reports. If you work in any area which involves delivering services/providing support for children, young people or families (whether you involve volunteers or not) we encourage you to complete it:

For information, we define a volunteer as ‘someone who spends time unpaid, doing something that aims to benefit the environment or individuals or groups other than (or in addition to) close relatives’. This includes those working in trustee and administrative roles and those providing direct or indirect services for children, young people and families.

If you have any questions about the survey please contact Joanna Machin at joanna.machin@volunteeringengland.org or 0207 520 8911
