How do I get my training endorsed?

How much does the endorsement process cost?
The pricing varies depending on the category you are submitting for, the length of endorsement and the amount of training you want to put forward.

What documents do I need to submit to gain endorsement?
To know exactly what evidence you need to send in to SkillsActive for endorsement, we have developed evidence checklists for each category.The evidence required is different depending on what category you are applying for.

How do I get my REPs entry qualifications listed on to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)?
You must firstly be an approved centre of an awarding body, delivering qualifications that give entry on to REPs. Once you have an approval letter from the awarding body you need to email this to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If I am linked with an awarding body can I still get my own training endorsed?
A training provider linked to an awarding body can still submit individual CPD training as well as their qualifications that are accredited. If you provide a lot of training you may want to consider the training provider licence, but all submissions can be made following the individual course endorsement procedure. All information on licencing and individual submissions can be found on the endorsement pages.
What is the difference between accreditation and endorsement and how do I get my training endorsed as a qualification?
It is important that we all start using the correct terminology.
Endorsed training only relates to training that is approved by the Sector Skills Council (SkillsActive) it is not a qualification, the endorsed training once approved will then be listed on the REPs website for the 30,000 members to search.
A qualification is a piece of training that sits on the National Database for Accredited Qualifications (NDAQ). The qualification will also offer credits that sits on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF).
Should you wish to make your training into a qualification then you will need to speak with an awarding body.
Please note that they will not look to take on qualifications in areas where there is already an entry qualification on REPs. For example, Level 2 Gym Fitness Instructor or Level 3 Personal Trainer as common units have been developed for all awarding bodies in these areas.
Why should I get my training endorsed?
Endorsed training allows an employer or training provider to receive REPs CPD credits for their course, and be listed on the REPs training course website.

How do you judge the amount of CPD points that get awarded?
Depending what Category you apply for will determine how many points you gain.
- Category 1c is between 8-16 points (1 point = 1 hour training)
- Category 2 is between 4-6 points
- Category 3 between 1-4 points
The endorsement panel has the final decision on how many points are awarded and if the provider has met the required criteria.
Does the license price include the first course submission price?
Yes, if you apply for any of the training provider licenses the first submission is included within the price.
However, if you are referred for further information after the endorsement panel has met then this will incur an additional fee.
Who is on the endorsement panel?
Do I get to meet them to discuss my feedback?
We have a team of technical experts within the fitness industry who make up the endorsement panel. If your submission gets referred for additional information you will get to see your report and have access via email to an evaluator who can help you gain approval.
What can I get from the standardisation training day?
This day goes through how to get a course approved and looks at other areas including assessment strategies, internal verification etc ensuring that you put forward a sound submission so that you might avoid being referred for further information incurring an additional cost.

How much does the standardisation training day cost?
- £140 SkillsActive non member (Including free SkillsActive affiliate membership usually £100)
- £90 for SkillsActive members.

What can I get from the consultancy day and what is the price?
An active consultantcy is able to take you through the application process and give you in-depth knowledge surrounding continued professional development and your application.

If you require half a day then the price is £250, for a full day the price would be £400. These prices do not include VAT
How often do you have submission dates?
We have quarterly submission dates for categories 1c and 2 throughout the year. The endorsement process lasts eight weeks from the submission deadline to gaining your feedback. Forthcoming dates are found here.
For Category 3 training there are no specific deadlines to work towards, these submissions can be made anytime throughout the year.
Is the submissions process the same for level 4 training?
Level 4 training is recognised as an industry award and has a qualification status so the endorsement process and evidence needed to be supplied is slightly different. To gain a level 4 status you must have both experience and qualifications under the Category that you are applying for:
- Cancer,
- cardiac disease,
- falls prevention,
- stroke,
- mental health,
- back pain,
- obesity/diabetes,
- accelerated rehabilitation (military only),
- respiratory.
Where can I find out which training is recognised by REPs?

What are the national occupation standards (NOS) and how can I access them?
All the NOS can be found here.
How do I know where to map to?
You need to decide what level of knowledge a delegate needs to know prior to your training. For Category 1c courses you need to decide who you want to accept on your training to ensure you map to the correct level on the national occupational standards. Category 2 and 3 do not require mapping.

Is there a minimum requirement of mapping?
There is no minimum requirement needed but you do need to ensure it is completed correctly to the units required as a pre-requisite and Health and safety units are included.
If you map to the wrong units, then this may lead to a “refer for further information”. Please note that you need to map the whole of your course but not to 100% of the NOS. If you map completely to the NOS then this becomes the qualification that learner will have already done and will be of no benefit. Only map to the areas which are relevant to your course.
Are assessments required for workshops (Category 2)?
It is not a requirement for workshop submissions to include a summative assessment, but you may want to include formative assessments throughout the day to check the groups learning.
For a course (Category 1c) status do I need to include both practical and theory assessments?
If you are submitting a theory-based course you only need to include a theory assessment ensuring it covers the learning outcomes. With practical courses you need to have both theory and practical summative assessments.
Can the assessments for Category 1c be completed throughout the training day?
The summative assessment needs to be completed once all the learning is taught on that subject. If you breakdown your learning into smaller modules then you can assess that area once completed rather then at the end but there can be no more learning on that topic after the assessment has been completed.
Is there a minimum requirement of theory questions I have to include?
No, there is no minimum requirement, but they must have met a 70% pass mark. Ensure it matches all your learning outcomes.
How much detail do I need to include in my delegates manual?
You need to include all the information delivered on the training so the delegates have a reference to what is being taught. If practical then the use of images is important (ensure you have the authority to use the image or create them yourself, if not then this could lead to legal issues surrounding plagiarism).
Does SkillsActive accept online CPD training for endorsement?
Yes, SkillsActive does accept online applications. We encourage online CPD training as we can reach REPs members in all regions.

What are pre-requisites for developing a CPD course?
All CPD that doesn’t offer entry or give an additional category on REPs is underpinned by a pre-requisite. Therefore, when developing CPD training there will always be a mandatory pre-requisite for REPs members.
For example, if you are developing a pre-postnatal CPD course the learner would have to hold the pre-postnatal qualification before being able to attend the piece of training as CPD builds on the fundamentals of a qualification. If a provider is found not to be adhering to this principle then they are in breach of their code of practice for training providers.
What happens if my course isn’t approved?
A full action plan will be supplied along with the evaluator’s email address. You can communicate with your evaluator to send further evidence to ensure success. There may be additional costs to this.
