Wales Training Directory

Training directory for Wales’ Active Leisure, Learning and Well-Being Sector

SkillsActive has recently undertaken an audit of the training and development opportunities that are available within the Sport, Fitness, Playwork, Outdoors, and Caravans sector across Wales.

Based upon a confidential survey, and as part of this work, we have developed a directory of training provision. This can act as a tool for providing employers with the details of appropriate providers that may be well placed to help address specific skills gaps and shortages within the workplace.

Disclaimer

It is important to state that the training directory will include provision that is both accredited and non-accredited. Therefore, and as the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure, Learning and Well-Being, SkillsActive is not in a position to endorse the provision that has been identified. SkillsActive would urge interested parties to explore quality assurance with the provider direct before investing in any training and development.

SASP's main purpose is to assist Sport England in building the foundations of sporting success through a world leading community sports system. This will be a key element of the 2012 Olympic Legacy which aims to achieve the target of 1,000,000 more adults taking part in sport by 2012/13 and 80% of young people accessing 5 hours of sport per week.

SASP is contributing towards this target in Somerset by providing high quality sports and physical activity opportunities to children and young people across Somerset . SASP also provides effective support to clubs in terms of training coaches, officials and volunteers, quality assurance and accessing funding opportunities.

Castle School

The strength of The Castle School lies in the remarkable breadth of its achievements. Castle’s last OFSTED inspection concluded that ‘This is an outstanding school’. It maintains the many areas of excellence reported at the last inspection. It has subsequently improved its performance highly successfully....' Yet it is not only in the academic areas nor upon our examination results, excellent though they are year on year, that we base our belief that the school is exceptional. The extraordinary achievements of our students in sports…and in their significant contribution to the community, add vital ingredients to make this school special. These achievements have gained awards locally, nationally and from Government Departments.

The school offers specialisms in Sport, Applied Learning and Leading Edge which have all made a significant impact on achievement and high quality teaching and learning. Castle’s most recent development is the extension of the age range of the school which includes the building of a new £2.5 million 6th form called the Qdos (Qualifications in the Development of Sport) Centre. Post 16 provision will primarily focus on sports and active leisure developments.
