Apprenticeships are a proven way to train a workforce, which can make an organisation more effective, productive and competitive by addressing skills gaps directly.
The Apprenticeship programme has been designed to help businesses train employees to reach a high level of competency and performance, and within active leisure, learning and well-being there are a number of different Apprenticeship pathways available.

From September 2010 Functional Skills will be a mandatory part of the Apprenticeships Frameworks replacing Key Skills.
In Wales the Apprenticeship framework is the same as in England, but funded through the Welsh Assembly Government. For more information visit the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills website or the Careers Wales website.
There are two Modern Apprenticeship frameworks available in Scotland, and are aimed at those aged 16 or above and capable of achieving a vocational qualification at level 3.

There is an Apprenticeship in Active Leisure and Learning at level 2 and 3 in Northern Ireland.
