Whilst we work to raise standards and productivity within the sport and active leisure sector in the UK, there is a growing demand for workforce development at a European level which we are also engaged with.

The EU has placed high importance on the development of a European qualifications framework that will ultimately result in a flexible and transparent qualification framework at a European level, allowing for an increased level of worker mobility.

SkillsActive have been at the cutting edge of European developments for the sector in recent years. Such efforts have culminated in the coming together of experts from all corners of Europe to focus on LMI and the creation of generic standards for improving the workforce at a European level.



Golf Stand project

The European Occupational Standards for Golf project (GOLF STAND) has been developed with the main objective to produce a range of indispensable European occupational standards aiming at defining the competences, skills and knowledge needed for those working in the sector as golf professionals.

SkillsActive is a lead member of three European Networks:

European Health and Fitness Association

EHFA LogoThe European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA) is an independent and non-for-profit organisation based in Brussels representing the interests of the sector at the EU level.  

EHFA was created in 2001 from a revamp of the European Network of Fitness Associations, formed in 1996.  Through its European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS), EHFA’s main goals are to raise standards within the European health and fitness industry and to promote best practice in instruction and training in order to help meet the challenge of rising levels of inactivity and obesity currently facing Europe.

European Observatory of Sport and Employment

EOSE Logo page-largeSkillsActive currently holds the presidency of the European Observatory of Sport and Employment and provides the secretariat.  

EOSE act at the European level with the goal to serve as a source of knowledge and a strategic facilitator to support the development of the whole Sport and Active Leisure sector, including employment, sports systems, developing standards, competence, qualifications and Vocational Education and Training (VET).


European Association of Sports Employers

EASE logo

The European Association of Sports Employers (EASE) operates as an independent membership association of national and European sport and active leisure employer organisations wishing to promote social change.

SkillsActive helped form EASE in 2003 to represent the interests of the sport and active leisure sector at European level.
